Who can book?
Local community groups, non-profit organisations, charities, and community interest companies (CICs) within the Ipswich area
What can the space be used for?
The space must usually be for the benefit of the local community or a local community initiative/group etc
Can I run a for-profit event?
No, you would need to book paid commercial space.
Are there size restrictions?
Yes, these would depend on the space or unit you are enquiring about.
Can I make a recurring booking?
The Buttermarket tries to help as many local organisations as possible so we generally keep to one free booking per year.
How far in advance can I book?
No less than 2 weeks no more than 2 months.
When are spaces available?
During regular business hours Monday – Sunday 9am – 6pm
Please note: We do not provide wifi and do not offer free parking. Loading and unloading is via the centre’s loading bay.

Call Me Ted Exhibition
The Call Me Ted Pop-Up Exhibition at The Buttermarket was a week-long showcase celebrating Ipswich Town F.C.’s Premier League 2024/2025 season. The exhibition featured a unique collection of matchday posters, with one design created for each home game.
Produced by a group of talented local artists and curated by the Call Me Ted team, the exhibition brought together football, design, and community in a creative and engaging way. More than just an art show, it captured the spirit of a memorable season while highlighting the strength of Ipswich’s growing creative community.
The pop-up proved highly popular with visitors and was widely regarded as a great success, offering a vibrant space for fans, artists, and the wider community to come together and celebrate both football and local creativity.
Uwu Studio & Friends
As part of Black History Month, local artist Lily Hammond transformed a unit at the Buttermarket into a vibrant pop-up destination, bringing together a community of makers, artists, and entrepreneurs in the heart of Ipswich.
The pop-up celebrated Black creativity, culture, and community, showcasing a diverse mix of art, fashion, books, design, and handmade products. Visitors browsed bold prints, unique clothing, inspiring artwork, beautifully crafted candles, and many other one-of-a-kind items.
The space became a lively hub where shoppers could discover new talent, support local and Black-owned businesses, and experience something different within the centre. With an ever-changing selection of products and a welcoming, creative atmosphere, the pop-up brought fresh energy and excitement to the Buttermarket.
This event demonstrated how our flexible spaces can be transformed into engaging retail experiences, providing the perfect platform for artists, independent brands, and entrepreneurs to showcase their work, connect with new audiences, and bring their ideas to life in a busy town centre setting.
