Celebrate World Bee Day with The Buttermarket 🐝🌼
Join us as we mark World Bee Day with a renewed focus on biodiversity and pollinator protection right here in Ipswich.
We’ve enhanced our Nectar Bar and invite you to take part by creating your own bee-friendly spaces at home, whether you have a garden, a balcony, or simply a windowsill. Every effort counts!
How can you help?
Create a Pollinator-Friendly Garden Border
Set aside a section of your garden and fill it with nectar-rich flowers that bloom throughout the seasons. Choose a mix of heights, colours, and flowering times to keep pollinators fed from spring to autumn. Even a small strip can make a big impact.
Build a Nectar Window Box
No garden? No problem. A simple window box planted with pollinator-friendly herbs and flowers is a great way to support local wildlife. It’s easy to set up, needs minimal space, and brings colour (and bees!) to your windowsill.
Why is this important?
A recent WWF & Buglife report revealed that 17 bee species are now regionally extinct in the East of England. The decline of these crucial pollinators threatens ecosystems and food security alike.
At The Buttermarket, we’re committed to reversing this trend, and we believe local action can make a real difference. That’s why we’re asking the Ipswich and Suffolk community to get involved.
